Scott Smith

I have been in private practice in Tokyo since 2007. Prior to that, I worked as a therapist in several different settings, including the largest private psychiatric hospital in Southern California (Sharp Mesa Vista), an outpatient clinic for children and families (RADY Children's Hospital), a public school district (San Diego Unified School District Mental Health Resource Center), and an international school in Tokyo (Tokyo International School).

In addition to the ongoing education required by my jobs and licensing board, I spend a lot of time and money pursuing higher-level training in clinical approaches that serve my work. I am trained in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy, Multi-Systemic Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. 

I am licensed as a Clinical Social Worker with the Board of Behavioral Sciences in the American state of California (license #23576). Please click here if you'd like to verify my license. I have a Master's Degree in Social Work from San Diego State University.
